Self Introduction |
I was in the Humanities Programme in RI(JC)in 2014 and benefitted from the wide ranging discussions and mutual learning especially on GP topics.I believe I am able to teach the topic simply, and effectively, without complicated methods.Although I have not taught in a formal setting before, I have taught and engaged my classmates, and have good communication skills, which I believe is important in teaching. Others have asked me to give tuition after my A levels before, but I did not as I could not commit for a sustained period of time.
I prefer to use examples to increase understanding, and working 'backwards'- deconstructing passages, essays, comprehensions using key ideas to understand what they are saying.
Post graduation from JC, I have kept abreast of current affairs, and have still been writing and reading as part of personal interest, amidst NS.
GP is about argumentation and substantiation, and English Language is a topic students should score well in, with a little guidance on the necessary structure and explaination.
Also, I recently went through my computer and online folders and realised I have a wealth of General Paper/English language (Secondary school level) material and notes (both self-made and school handouts). They pertain more to skills and tips rather than content, hence, still relevant to O/A/N level students, and I am willing to share them so as to increase the tutee's exposure to a range of skills. |

"Literacy is not, as it is considered in our schools, a PORTION of education. It IS education. It is at once the ability AND the inclination of the mind to find knowledge, to pursue understanding, and out of knowledge and understanding, not out of received attitudes and values or emotional responses, however worthy, to make judgments." - Richard Mitchell
